This is in regards to the Veterinary Clinic. Yesterday I put my beloved precious dog down because he had an enlarged spleen with nodules. I had taken him here for several years know where did they catch this enlarged spleen. More so than that the very last time I came in my dog was petrified of the vet and he had never done that before. How could you have not caught this enlarged spleen. As far as I am concerned you were incompetent and I would never bring another animal to your facility

I have not been in the shelter, but I am very grateful for the clinic in the back. Dr. Collins has taken very good care of my four legged family members. The techs are always really sweet when handling my animals and the receptionists are always very kind and help in any way they can. They have provided my loved ones with kindness, long lives and great quality of life.

This shelter and many like it. Do a awesome job in taking in unwanted animals, from owners that no long want them. for unreal reasons. Anyone that works in a shelter ( not a rescue) understand the large amount of unwanted pets. And that the shelter spays and neutered and vacc. the animals they put up for adoption. they keep them very clean. warm and safe. They do care were these pet go, and want them to be in forever homes. unlike their past owner . We have adopted family members from this shelter. They could have your next furry family member.

There are so many things this place and the "Board of Directors" could do to make life better for he animals housed in this place. PLEASE do not surrender your animal here. Go online and find a different place. There are many rescue groups out there that are MUCH more proactive in finding good homes for the animals. The big dogs cannot be walked. They have no blankets, toys or chew toys to keep them busy. The cats and smaller dogs have no blankets (this is because of "no washing machine". They could be purchased at the Salvation Army for $100). They are not up with this century. They could use Facebook, Petfinder.com, Petco Pet supply stores...but won't. These resources WORK!! Some of those animals have been there for a year and they are doing nothing about it. Their webpage states "volunteers are always welcome". No they are not. The welfare of the animals are obviously not their priority. If you can give a pet a good home, PLEASE go there to adopt an animal to get it out of there. I have stopped my donations, and people I know who write checks were informed by me about how this place is run. Please help these animals and get them out of there. I personally found a very proactive place to volunteer and I will be much happier, but I feel sorry for those animals at the Macomb Humane Society (on 22 Mile Rd.). :(

Don't bother

The staff there isn't overly friendly but that doesn't really concern me. When we went all the large dogs were outside but we were still looking around when one of the ladies walked to the back to see if we needed help. She said they were being walked an that we could look but would not be able to adopt one because our son was too young for a large dog. She told us that anything around the 30 lbs mix in a tiny kennel (he was too big for and they had plenty of large runs) was not a good fit for us and they would not let us adopt him. Are you kidding me? Growing up I've had all large dogs (labs, Shepards, collies) and even a horse. I don't know where they get off telling me that a dog who said to be good with children would be a pet for a family. More than half the dogs that we could see were sitting in their own urine. One dog even peed right in front of her and she just walked away. I felt bad for them. We also looked at the cats with their dirty litter boxes. This was our first day out looking for our new family member and they completely ruined it for us. I told a few of my friends and they couldn't believe I even bothered with that place, apparently a lot of them have had a bad experience or two. I'm not saying you have to have low standards but I don't think these people would adopt to a saint. If you go there, good luck.

Always try to get your pets in if needed for emergencys. We have been going there for years. They are reasonable priced. They threw in a free nail trim when my dog had surgery. The vet even calls without you calling them to see how your animal is(we have a cat and a dog and she called when we had both surgerys done). The vet and techs. care for the animals. The vet got very emotional herself when my cat was very sick. People don't take time to give good reviews only bad. Want animals to not get heartworm so talk about heartguard to prevent you from spending more money later on if they get it.

I took my show quality German ...

I took my show quality German Shepard to this close by vet just to get his vaccinations done. Nothing else I had to go to the vet twice to get all the shots so I seen two separate vet techs. Both of them bad mouthed the breeder who has been breeding since 1969. Both techs tried to force heartguard products on my dog. My breeder told me in the beginning to beware of vet techs who want to push products on your dog that you don't need! I refused the products and the tech gave me an attitude about it saying how vets have formal education and are more educated than someone who pairs dogs to make puppies. I went back to the breeder to begin obedience classes and was yelled at because the dog was given its shots 3 weeks early according to schedule. It apparently can cause weakening of the immune system.

I feel i was forced to purchase heart guard products. -I refused! Also shots were given too early. Beware of this dirty dirty clinic and their suggestions. I will NOT return!

I recently tried to adopt a kitten from the shelter and was turned down because i didnt have sayed records from two cats i had fro 18 years and 12 years. They want people to donate and to adopt a pet but they are too strict about adoption.I was trying to save a kitten and give it a good home but was turned down.I will never donate a penny to this organization. Its very upsetting that they complain about being overwhelmed with too many animals and then they turn someone down because they dont have a spayed record from over 12 years ago and besides the vet that did the work is not in business.I also told them i was gonna get bthis one spayed also because she would be an indoor cat but they still said no .Im very sorry the do business like this and i feel sorry for the sheltered animals that are waiting to be adopted to a good home.

Rude!!!

I would give them zero stars if I could. When I called to donate some pet items, the woman who answered the phone rudely replied that they do not need anything. Therefore I found a much more needy and grateful animal rescue to donate the items to. And in the future, when I make a donation, to keep in mind that this organization does not need any help, they are all set.

they are liars to get money and euthanize the animals they receive. if ur thinking about it, don't. find them a good home no matter what. 4 cats I could no longer keep bc of allergies I had to find new homes. from the lack of being able to find homes I thought i had no other choice. but you do!! I am going to get this place shut down it is full of rude incompetent selfish people. I even adopted back one of the 3 cats. unfortunately from the obscene amount of money I spent 60$ to get him back. they r all loveable cats. end of story save your pets give them a chance at life. add me on fb and message me if interested name is Amber Lynn lahaie or email me hangtime234@yahoo.com lets save other peoples animal before they're lives r destroyed prematurely.

Wonderful! Our dog needed surg...

Wonderful! Our dog needed surgery to remove a tooth and get neutered. Staff were efficient, friendly and extremely honest, realistic and thorough (even discovering he was behind on his shots - which they immediately rectified *cheap!!*). He spent the day with them for these procedures, and was ready to be picked up on time. The surgery was not only a complete success, but he healed very neatly and very quickly. They even called the next day to follow up on his recovery.

We were charged $225 for this service, and we found out afterwards that they kindly threw in free tooth cleaning, nail trimming and some follow up medication for us. We had a quote from Banfield for the exact same service, and were quoted over $1000 (pushing their Wellness program that seemed poor value).

I found the difference in staff attitude was we were treated as second rate to the pet (like our dog owned us) versus the Humane Society being more down to earth and treating us respectfully like real pet owners. Both clinics were equally clean and stocked.

I highly recommend the Humane Society. They are generous, caring professionals who did a great job and we are proud to support them by returning again for all our future vet needs.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE T...

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE TO FIND A NEW HOME...GO TO A RESCUE GROUP. We took our dog here because he needed a new home. They assured me they NEVER euthanize unless an animal become aggressive and becomes unadoptable or is severely ill.

So we took the dog in and they seemed to care less about any of his papers or history. They asked a few general questions. Before my kids could say good bye they had him in a new leash device and where taking him away. I was asked to fill out a form signing the dog away. Now if they looked at his papers they would have realized I did not own the dog. My BF does. He was not with me when I went. I thought he was okay with me taking the dog in. Anyway she made sure I put the phone number on the form so they could call if he became aggressive. I asked if I would have to take him back in that case and she said you just signed away ownership. She told me they would not put him up for adoption for 3 days to give him time to adjust (this was Saturday) They said I could call in a few days and see if he was still there.

So they kids wanted to see the animals. They let us go look but asked us to stay away from our dog to avoid confusing him. When I went back I noticed they had all the same dogs they had last year when we went. One of them we tried to adopt but were told no because he wasn't ready for adoption. The other was because we have kids. I thought well at least they don't put them down. I should have realized it's probably because they make it so hard to adopt!!!

Anyways; on Thursday my boyfriend went up there to check on his dog and bring him home if he wasn't adopted (ok he told me over the phone to just get rid of him then....he didn't mean it but I thought he did oops) He didn't tell them why he was there. He went back to look for him but he wasn't there. So my bf asked the staff about the dog. They told him that the dog became overly aggressive and was in the back sedated waiting to be put down. She said they had been calling my house to let me know but I NEVER got a call or I would have gone and picked him up myself. Our dog is NOT a bad dog. Not aggressive at all. He is playful and loving. I mean in what world is a healthy 3 year old German Shepard who is up to date on shots and already neutured unadoptable???? Not to mention the dog reaked from laying in it's own urine.

I also know they are full of it because since then have kenneled him and he had zero problems. No aggression issues what so ever. I also talked to another woman who had the same thing happen with her dog...took it in and 3 days later it was in the back lying in filth getting ready to be put down.

Extremely Satisfied

I was extremely satisfied with the care my cat received at the Humane Society of Macomb. She was treated quickly, and there were no hidden costs. Before a test was run, the rationale and cost were explained in detail. Within an hour, my cat was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. I was immediately educated on how to care for a cat with this condition and shown how to administer insulin injections. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call from the doctor the next day to check on the status of my cat.

I've taken my animals to other veterinarians in the past and must say I received better quality care at the Humane Society of Macomb. I won't hesitate to return in the future.

Stray Kittens

My mother-in-law took four sweet little kitties she had caught to this place. The kittens had very little human contact, but were very healthy, and they were definitely young enough to be 'socialized.'

She told them that she didn't want ANYTHING to happen to the kittens, in the case that they didn't think anyone would adopt them. They promised to call her in that case. She trusted them and signed the kittens over to their care.

We called two hours later to find out their status. Eventually (after talking to the supervisor), they admitted that they had been euthanized while still in the same cage my mother-in-law had brought them in!!! Before she EVEN LEFT THE BUILDING!!!!

How is that HUMANE?? How is that HONEST??? I will NEVER go to another "Humane Society" again. Never.

First Time Looking for a DOG!!!

We only saw 3 smaller dogs. One caught our eye. Bigger dogs where in the back yard. The lady we talked to answered our questions and was trying to get one of the dogs not to bark so much. will go back and look again.

Overall
Worst experience I have had in a very long time.

We were profiled. Me being an older woman in the

company of a younger man. We were so rudely

treated that we walked away without adopting an

animal. An older dog, that we wanted when everyone wants a younger dog.

We wanted this dog. We would have given him a very

good home. I have raised dogs and cats all my life.

I have a very good relationship with my veterinarian.

My dogs and cats have always been well cared for.

My Vet can vouch for that.

The so called help at this place certainly needs to

improve their people skills, and their priority should

be that their animals are first. Not their personal agenda.

disgusted

This is NOT a "humane" organization! They adopt out less than 10% of the animals they take in! Don't be fooled into thinking they are part of the Michigan Humane Society, they are NOT! Please take your animals to a local rescue or anywhere else, just not here! A former employee was quoted as saying mass euthinasia takes place here and the animals bodies are piled up then thrown in the incinerator. This place needs to be shut down.
