- About Established in 1977, Transport Unlimited is a family-owned business that began as an agency representing a few truckload carriers. During the 1980s, due in part to industry deregulation, opportunities flourished and the business grew. We made loyal contacts and gained a favorable reputation for responding diligently to our customer's demands. We also gained valuable experience shipping a variety of commodities that included heavy and over dimensional freight. Business continued to prosper and it became necessary to increase our fleet resources beyond our agency poll. We secured a Property Brokers License and started expanding our database of transportation contacts. In addition, our interest and talent in hauling specialized freight was growing and we began purchasing equipment of our own to handle what we termed "super loads." As our scope of knowledge and contacts broadened, our business relationships developed in a positive manner, and our success escalated. We bought more equipment and property and invested in systems technology to manage key areas of service and compliance. In 1986, we moved from a trailer on a truck stop parking lot to a 2700 square foot office building on a 13 acre piece of property in Pittsburgh, PA. In nine years, more by accident than design, we had built a viable operation and all we had done was provide consistent, on-time service at competitive rates. Shippers remembered us for doing a quality job, and carriers and drivers remembered us for treating them right and paying them a fair price for their labor. It's a process that works. Over three decades later ; we are still providing consistent, on-time truckload and heavy haul service at competitive rates. In 2003, recognizing the advantage it could bring to our client base, we partnered with software developer and 3PL, Logistics Planning Services ( LPS ) to market their online transportation management system, KEYSHIP. Keyship is a state of the art, web-based rating, routing and freight payment tool that efficiently manages volume shipping of various modes and has saved its members as much as 60% off their transportation costs. Our alliance with LPS has transformed us into a truly full-service transportation company. It has allowed us to bring to the table a menu of services that meet any transportation need.
