We were regular customers of Hugo’ since 1982 until moving 42 miles East-relocation. Mr. Phil Weber had always kept our vehicles going. (GM/Lincoln products, 3 Subarus and 2 Hondas). We inherited my parent's 2000 Volvo S80 with 53K miles. At the 127K mile mark, it suffered a major electrical system failure. SRS, Air Bag, Urgent Service Required warning light… Headlights were flashing, direction signals produced several cycling relays until engine shutdown and door windows inop.
We brought it to a Volvo expert for repair. His diagnosis: one of the three computer modules had failed. Cost was prohibitive vs the age and current value of the 2000 S80.
I called Phil and explained the nature of the failure. He said the faulty conditions might be something other than a computer module. I gave him the time to work the car into his workload. He found 35 trouble codes on his analysis computer. Assigned Dan, one of his excellent mechanics to break out the wiring diagrams/drawings and go to work. (S80 had an excellent paint/no rust and new Michelin tires). Dan and Phil put a lot of time into tracing wires, voltages and grounds. They found a faulty ignition switch, one of the five terminals was damaged. The terminal was essential powering the computer module and accessories. Replacement of the switch deleted half of the fault codes. Next in line was the multi-position headlight switch. Replacement did not result in any improvement. They pulled a fuse block from under the dash to check voltages. On the other side, they found a relay was positioned incorrectly on the four tracks. Reinserting the same relay into the correct tracks made the balance of the fault codes extinguished. Later, Hugo’s did a brake job and door lock actuator repair.
The car has over 100+ new miles on it since repair and is running perfectly. These guys are capable of tracing/hunting my Volvo electrical circuits, mechanical repairs and keeping the S80 going. Thanks Phil and Dan.
