Overall
Worst Orthodontist EVER!

He was my orthodontist over 15 years ago. This was when was was inventing the MARA...yes, a great concept, but very painful. If it would have worked, I would have probably given him two stars. However, overall, Dr. Eckhart made me scared to death of dentists!!! He was trying to remove my MARA, and he was pulling and pulling. It hurt so bad. I told him to stop, and that he was pulling out my tooth. However, all he said was, "No I'm not...I'm a dentist and I know what I'm doing." Less than a minute later he pulled my tooth out.

To Erin Aarons; I apologize for hurting you and scaring you over 15 years ago. At that time, the use of the MARA was being developed, and if a tooth came out with it, it could only have been a baby tooth, since I have never lost a permanent tooth with any MARA removal. We no longer place MARA's on baby teeth, because of the problem you had with it, and children and adults have MARA's placed and removed without major pain today. Nevertheless, I should have kept you more comfortable with anesthesia, and today better pain relief methods are available than 15 years ago. I regret your bad experience and wish I could undo it. I understand your criticism, and I would not cause suffering like that today.

Overall
Bad Experience At This Office

This orthodontic office does not need patients nor appreciate them!!! They seem to have absolutely no concept of good customer service. They are very rude to patients when they feel like it. The other reviewer is correct, the "office manager" or someone like that does most of the work, talking to you etc. instead of the actual Dr. Eckhart himself. I think she has the nerve to think that she is really "the boss" or the orthodontist herself (she certainly acts so). She and the other ladies in the office (i.e. office personnel) seem to run the office by themselves. And they are nasty!!! I personally think they will run it down to going out of business the way they have been operating and treating patients. Dr. Eckhart himself seems a reasonable person, and seems very experienced, however he lets several wowen in the office run (or "ruin"?) his business, which is a shame. He might be able to do much better with a new and more cheerful and polite set of staff. The office manager is terrible and has no remorse treating patients very rudely and unprofessionally when they dare to express their preference in working or speaking with Dr. Eckhart directly instead of her. The rest of the ladies in the office seem to be all about the same in terms of rudeness (of course when the Dr. is around they all treat you very nicely in front of him). We will not recommend anyone we care about to ever use this office. There are much nicer and better orthodontic offices in the South Bay where you can go and spend your hard-earn money. Don't waste your time going to Dr. Eckhart's office and get insulted and treated poorly there. I noticed this office seems to do a lot of advertising to get new patients, and may be they have too many patients they really don't care if they'd lose some! They probably work hard to get new business since they painfully realize they can't treat people well enough to retain current business and customer loyalty.
