He is the Medical Director for the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at North Suburban Medical Center. Dr. Georgescu embraced weight loss surgery with enthusiasm and compassion, learning from leaders in the field in the U.S.A. and abroad. He brought to the Bariatric Surgery Program at Center of Surgical Specialists his vast experience and training, performing almost all these surgeries laparoscopically. In addition, Dr. Georgescu has been performing anterior exposure of the spine for more than 15 years. This is a team approach between an access surgeon and a spine surgeon for treating complex pathology of the spine. Endoscopy
For the diagnosis of esophageal cancer an upper endoscopy is necessary to visualize and take a biopsy from the tumor inside of the esophagus. To evaluate the extent of the disease often other tests are done including CT scan, PET scan, endoscopic US and blood tests.

Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgery specializes in the surgical treatment of blood vessels. There are two types of blood vessels: the arteries that carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body and the veins that bring the blood back to the heart. The disease that damages the arteries is called arteriosclerosis, also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD). This leads to blockage of the arteries or weakness of the walls with the occurrence of aneurysms.
Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is direct visualization of the abdominal cavity. The laparoscope is a long thin instrument with a light source at its tip, to light up the inside of the abdomen or pelvis. Fiberoptic fibers carry images from a lens, also at the tip of the instrument, to a video monitor, which the surgeon and other operating room staff can view in real time.
