Preventive Care

Dental Care
Traditional and cryo surgery options are available, under carefully monitored conditions. Periodic dental cleanings and tooth extractions are also available.
Vaccination
We offer basic kitten and puppy exams, as well as exams for other juvenile species including skunks, ferrets and rabbits. Generally speaking, we like to examine a juvenile animal one time per month until approximately six months of age for vaccinations and/or de-worming. We typically recommend that your pet be spayed or neutered around six months of age or shortly thereafter.
Behavioral Counseling
Bach flower remedies are frequently used in a complimentary veterinary practice to help treat behavioral problems, to aid in training and to address different emotional imbalances such as: fear, anxiety and grief. Emotional imbalances may affect an animal's ability to heal and to respond favorably to his or her environment.
Nutritional Counseling
Genetic weakness Whenever Qi becomes disrupted imbalance occurs and disease may result. The flow of Qi may be influenced by the stimulation of acupuncture points. Qi may be nourished by proper food, herbs, exercise, and body manipulation. The stimulation of acupuncture points by needles or other means is an attempt to re-establish the proper balance or flow of Qi throughout the body. The use of herbs, homeopathy, nutritional support, and exercise are implemented in an attempt to assist the body in obtaining the appropriate Qi it must acquire from its environment. Acupuncture helps to reset the energy system "circuit board" by balancing the flow of Qi within the body. Excesses or deficiencies of Qi from inappropriate diet, exercise, sleep etc., may be addressed by herbal, dietary, and physical therapies.
Comprehensive Examination
In order for a proper diagnosis to be made, a thorough physical examination of the pet and review of pertinent medical history is essential. Furthermore, there are a variety of similar symptoms that may be the result of very different medical problems. Additionally, by State of Georgia law, a veterinarian must have a relationship with a patient before that vet may diagnose conditions or prescribe any medications.

Growing up, Dr. Awilda's dad has always been an inspiration and showed her how to love and care for animals. She remembers, on a few occasions, him bringing a stray cat or dog home to care for, and the happy feelings of having a new pet at home. At one point, they had chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. Her love for animals grew stronger when one of her favorite family pets, a dalmatian named Shamu, got heartworm disease. A local veterinarian came to see him and he showed her the microfilaria in his mobile microscope in their dining room. What an experience! Shamu survived thanks to the veterinary care and Dr. Awilda was taught how to care for him during his treatment. Throughout her bachelor's degree, she worked as a veterinary technician while following her dream to become a veterinarian.
Pain Management
Although the largest part of the medicine we practice at Loving Touch is Eastern in origin (i.e. acupuncture, homeopathy, Chinese herbs, bach flower, etc.), there are many times when we stand fast by Western medicine—including pain management, limited vaccinations and using blood work to detect underlying health concerns.

As dogs and cats age, they, like people, have a greater risk for developing certain diseases and conditions. For example, we know that the incidence of problems, such as heart disease, kidney disease, malignant and benign tumors, arthritis, loss of vision, and oral/dental disease increases with advancing age. However, when such conditions are diagnosed in their early stages, treatment to cure such disorders or delay their progress can be given in most cases.

Dentistry – Loving Touch Animal Center employs an ultrasonic scalar and polisher to maintain healthy oral hygiene. We offer limited oral surgery and extractions.
Spaying and Neutering
We are observing that a growing number of our patients are canine and feline "senior citizens." Part of the reason that pets are able to live longer now than a few years ago, is the tremendous advances that have occurred in veterinary medicine. A greater knowledge of diseases, diagnostic procedures, and treatments are available to us today. Perhaps the greatest reason why animals live longer, better lives, is the increased knowledge that the pet owners have about the importance of preventive health care measures—immunization, parasite control, spaying and neutering, and early disease detection, to name a few.

Laboratory Services
Annual and pre-surgical blood work can flag problems with organ and immune function—often times before them become outwardly apparent, allowing us to treat the issue sooner. This can result in your pet leading a longer, higher quality life.
