Teeth Cleaning
At our pediatric dental office, we follow the recommendations set forth by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to have your child visit our office for the first time no later than their first birthday. This visit will focus on helping your child feel comfortable at the dentist and performing a basic examination. Your child’s first dental cleaning and exam should generally take place by the time they are 2 years old.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
One important aspect of pediatric dentistry is prevention. Preventing tooth decay and damage before it occurs is one of the most effective ways to promote good oral health for a lifetime. One of our simplest and most popular preventive treatments is the use of sealants. Sealants are thin, plastic coatings that act as a protective shield against decay-causing bacteria and food particles. Sealants are suggested to protect your child’s teeth before decay occurs, especially in regards to ensuring the permanent teeth grow in properly.
Space Maintainers
One of the main goals of a pediatric dentist is to ensure the proper growth of your child’s permanent smile. To help reach this goal, we work hard to protect the primary (baby) teeth until they are ready to naturally fall out and make way for the permanent teeth. However, there are some circumstances that cause the primary teeth to fall out early. Generally, this is due to severe tooth decay or dental trauma from accidents. If your child loses a primary tooth prematurely, Dr. Brumbaugh may suggest a space maintainer.

Fillings
Resin Composite
At the dental office of Dr. Brumbaugh, we are proud to offer dental fillings for cavities, one of the most common conditions that affect children’s teeth. Dental fillings are designed to restore the structural integrity of the tooth after all decay and damage has been removed. While there are many types of dental fillings available, we generally suggest white fillings made out of composite resin, a durable type of plastic. Also known as composite or tooth-colored fillings, white fillings provide extra strength and durability while being matched exactly to your child’s natural tooth color. White fillings are ideal for long-lasting health and helping your child feel more confident in their smile.
Crowns
At Dr. Brumbaugh’s dental office, we are in the business of saving smiles! When more extensive decay or trauma has occurred, damaging a significant portion of your child’s tooth structure, a stainless steel crown may be just what you need. Stainless steel crowns are a special type of dental crown generally recommended for children. Tooth-shaped caps, stainless steel crowns fit over your child’s tooth up to the gum line, restoring the tooth’s size, shape, and function.
Restorative Dentistry
Dr. Brian Brumbaugh is excited to be your board-certified pediatric dentist and always strives to improve the dental health and education of the children in his community. He brings many years of training and experience to our office. He first graduated from Louisiana State University Dental School in New Orleans in 1999 before completing his pediatric dental residency in 2001. Dr. Brumbaugh takes continuing education courses multiple times per year, focusing on updating his knowledge on sedation, restorative dentistry, and behavior management. He is also the President of the local component of the American Dental Association.

Our caring dental team, led by Dr. Brumbaugh, is skilled in helping children feel comfortable during any treatment at our office. Root Canal Treatment
In children, the inner portion of the tooth is important to the healthy growth of the entire smile. Located in this delicate area are the tooth nerves, root canal system, and dental pulp, which contain vital blood vessels and cells. Normally protected by the tooth enamel, the inside of the tooth can easily become infected if decay or extensive damage reaches it. When this occurs, our pediatric dentist may suggest a pulpotomy.

That brings me to today – my son had oral surgery and he once again explained everything in detail knowing we were all a little nervous, and he checked in with us several times through it all to let us know how he was doing, and most importantly he made sure Gabe was okay.
Tooth Extractions
At Dr. Brumbaugh’s dental office, our first priority is to protect and repair your child’s natural smile. However, there may be circumstances when we may need to completely remove a tooth from its place in the jawbone. This treatment is called a tooth extraction and will only be suggested by our pediatric dentists if it is absolutely necessary to your child’s overall oral health.

Orthodontics
Space maintainers, similar in appearance to dental retainers, are devices used to prevent the natural teeth from shifting and block off the empty space that needs to stay open. The permanent tooth is then able to grow in properly, having the proper amount of space and the correct positioning in your child’s smile. Dr. Brumbaugh and our dental team work hard to continue building upon the foundation we created during childhood. We also welcome any new patients who perhaps have not had the opportunity for good dental care in their early years and are now facing challenges. We will work together with you and your family to determine your teenager’s specific dental needs and goals. Helping you find a general dentist who can help your teenager with more extensive treatments, such as wisdom teeth removal, braces, and replacing missing teeth, is also important to us.
