Did you know that tooth decay is transferable from primary teeth to permanent teeth? By placing fillings in baby teeth, we eliminate the potential for decay to spread to permanent teeth. We don’t recommend pulling baby teeth, either. You see, primary teeth are natural space maintainers, so early extraction can cause other teeth to shift out of place. To correct misalignment, the child may need orthodontic therapy later in life. Repairing decay in baby teeth is a conservative and preventive measure that we strongly recommend.

Fillings
If you have a cavity, a tooth-colored filling is an excellent option as it will restore the tooth back to health as well as create an aesthetically pleasing end result. Tooth-colored fillings use a resin that is similar in color to that of natural teeth and provide quality durability when used for small and mid-sized fillings. Because the color of the filling closely matches that of natural teeth, no one will be able to see you’ve had work done. Plus, the resin still has the same smooth texture of traditional amalgam fillings making it undetectable in your mouth.

Veneers are an increasingly common type of restorative, as well as cosmetic, dental treatment. Not only can veneers help with your tooth’s function, they can also boost the aesthetic qualities of one’s smile.
Crowns

General Dentistry
Dr. Strachan practiced general dentistry for ten years before deciding to specialize in pediatric dentistry. She received her postdoctoral specialty training at Columbia University School of Oral Medicine in 1995. Later, she served as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Prior to working at South Orange Dental Center, she served as an attending dentist at New York City’s Health and Hospital Corporation at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Harlem Hospital Center and Kings County Medical Center. She has also served as a board member of the City of Orange Early Childhood Center and the Maternal Child Consortium of New Jersey. Dr. Strachan also visits schools, as well as other community-based organizations to educate children and adults in early childhood dental disease prevention.
