HUGE WARNING!

These guys should be stopped by the department of consumer affairs.

They sold me an expensive pool heating solar system (about 10k) to "save money on gas and be greener". What a joke. What the idiots failed to mention is that by placing the panels on the roof the the roof would be completely ruined. In addition because of the distance from the pool and the height gain of the panels on the roof...the pool equipment was overpressured causing the pool filter to literally blow apart about 5 years after it was installed ($500).

Even worse, they assured me mounting the panels on the roof would not ruin the roof (only 3 years old at the time). WRONG! The installation holes started leaking 3-4 years after the install. They came back out and charged me another $300 to tune up the system and stop the leaks. 1 year later all the original leaks started leaking again as well as 2 or 3 new ones. The inside of my nice wood roof is completely ruined. Now I have to look at 1) moving the panels off the roof, 2)replacing the roof, and 3) replacing/reparing the interior WOOD ceiling. If I am lucky the cost of doing the above 3 things will be about 20,000 but could be more.

So if you add that 20k to the original 10k, your at about 30k to save on cheap natural gas? These guys have cost me more than half the cost of the original pool.

These guys are total ripoffs do not do business with them they have no idea what they are doing.

Caveat Emptor

If you value your money, do not consider doing business with Performance Solar. I inherited a solar pool system when I bought my house; I actually hired Performance Solar to re-install the panels after a roofing job. Fast forward 5 years; one of my panels was leaking from damage received in a hail storm. I called Performance Solar to have someone come take a look. Even though there is an office in Scottsdale, you have to call an 800 number and talk with someone out of state. Since I needed the repair done, I called. I was told that I needed to leave a credit card for the $127.50 service fee charge and that the service fee would be applied to the work. First mistake. I should have realized that ethical firms do not require someone to put money down for a repair call. We then talked about scheduling the appointment. I do not work on Fridays, so I asked if they could come then. They said that they don’t offer appointment times but that they would try to honor my request and that someone would be contacting me with the service call schedule. I never received the promised call for the scheduling, which I think strange - I would think that a company would welcome a call for next week rather than a “I need you here right away” demand. So, Friday morning at 7:55 am I answer the phone from the repairman who is at the door. They go up on the roof, I turn on the system, they see the leak, and they come down from the roof and tell me that I need two panels replaced, not one, and that they don’t have that particular panel on their truck. They want to measure the pool and they ask if I would like to add another panel to the system – my system has only three panels because it is meant to be supplemental heat and not primary heat, we do live in Arizona after all. I tell them no thanks, I just want the panels replaced. They said they would be back; I mention that I can only be home on Fridays, and that again seems to create concern, but they said someone from scheduling would be in touch. I wait another week and expect them to show up unexpectedly as before. Second mistake. I finally give in around 3:00 pm in the afternoon and call the company. “Oh yes,” she says, “I have you on my follow up list.” So much for follow up. “You need three panels replaced, and they are $600 apiece. However, we would like to replace your system for only $3,000.” She may have said more, but I was so flabbergasted and angry that I hung up. If you are looking for repair of FAFCO solar panels, do not contact Performance Solar. You can find panels for half the price, including shipping, online; just Google “fafco replacement solar panels” or “vortex solar panels.” I was able to replace all three of my panels for under a grand, which is less than Performance Solar would charge for just two panels without labor, to boot! Oh yeah – remember that service charge? A week later, the service charge for $127.50 shows up on my bill. Being an ethical person, I will pay this outrageous fee but I will tell the world not to do business with Performance Solar. Caveat emptor, indeed.
