General Info
Our Promise As divorce professionals, our role is to help our clients make the transition from being a couple to leading separate lives. We are committed to helping them do so in a humane and responsible way. We know that the adversarial process and a focus on "winning" the divorce all too often have bitter and destructive results. Most affected by this are the children. We promise to educate. Every couple will be given enough information to feel comfortable in making decisions. We will provide a level playing field to ensure that every thought, perspective and idea will be heard and given the merit it deserves. We will provide creativity; giving every couple as many options and ways to reach common ground as possible. We promise to help our clients balance the need for separation with the need to achieve their common goals. We promise to keep in mind that taking good care of the children is a common goal.

Professionalism

This fella speaks before he asks questions and makes all kinds of ignorant assumptions. It is clear the reason why the majority of mediation service providers have law degrees. This mediator was highly unethical in his practice, and the State of Utah should revoke his right to mediate during such highly stressful situations as modifying divorce decrees, especially when there are children involved in the divorce. My ex-husband desired to modify the divorce decree. I was happy with the decree as it stood but agreed that he may have had justifiable grounds to modify, and to protect the best interests of not only our children, but our coparenting relationship, I thought a mediation would be more neutral than trying to solve the issues ourselves, and believed both parties would have been better served if we saw a mediator and kept our decree out of the hands of the court. In my profession I have had the opportunity to understand certain forms of communication. I was very "keen' on his conversation style that was extremely condescending towards me. Extremely sexist. He made remarks about how I wouldn't or shouldn't be "single" long since I was obviously not unattractive, and he used this as a segue to suggest he could offer me dating and relationship advice (for a fee). My ex husband spent $300 an hour for a three hour session. By the end, I was in such a state of disempowerment and shock, and had been crying for nearly the entire session listening to his "mansplain." He very unethically suggested I had better agree to his process since he was always erred on the side of the "woman" anyway. Thank God I had the sense not to sign the documents the next day when I realized I didn't have to agree to anything! So my ex husband ended up spending almost a thousand dollars for a hokey mediation process. My ex husband jumped over a dollar to save a dime with this clunky blockhead. I hired an attorney the next day and he laughed at how unethical the session went for me.

This person is uninformed

If this individual had really done their due diligence they would have know how much time, money and stress that Shirley had saved them. For this person to make personal attacks is very cowardly and unfortunate. I have my own mediate practice and have an extremely high opinion of her and The Divorce Mediation Institute. I felt compeleed to defend her since she has been a pioneer in this feel and a huge advocate for families. She always has a pleasant demeanor and a great attitude considering the clients she often works with. I feel honored to have her as a colleage!

TRIED OTHERS-- THIS IS BEST!

Shirley was able to get my divorce completed and both my husband and I were so pleased. We had spent thousands of dollars each on attorneys with nothing accomplished. She was professional and went through every aspect that we needed to accomplish. She went above and beyond in helping us build IDEAS to be better parents after the divorce. The process was absolutely seamless. We went through several sessions and she really cared about us! She knew our childrens names and even remembers what they liked to do! Having been through attorneys and one other mediator there is absolutely no comparison! I'm so glad we found the Divorce mediation institute!!! my husband and I would recommend her and that company to family, friends or anyone who is in the divorce position.

Overall
Incompetent

Shirley is a low IQ person that is clearly in the wrong business. We had to provide her the same information (names, children's names, chidren's ages, addresses, income, etc.) three separate times. She tries to break the ice by telling "funny" stories about herself, her children and her husband - we heard some of the stories twice and it gobbled up a lot of time. The output (the documentation) was horrible and had to be completely redone by the lawyer she recommends. The payment scheduled changed from the initial phone call to what she asked for after the first meeting. I would not recommend her to anyone.

I am so appreciative of feedback from clients. In the course of a divorce both parties are struggling through a difficult transitory period. Often, unhappy clients are likely going to be unhappy no matter whom they are with or what process they choose. However, I am always open to modifying my approach and taking constructive critisim in order to help families reach a positive outcome. My commitment continues to remain to professionalism, high quality and service that is above reproach.

Could Not Have Done It Without You

Shirley[s counsel and advice helped me get through the most difficult and stessful period in my life. I can't imagine going through this without her coaching and help. The relationship with our children was preserved. We cannot thank you enough.

They're the best

I thought I'd never get through this mess. With the help of Shirley and Kayla I made it. My wife felt comfortable and I have a good future. The children were always kept in front of every problem. I was appr4ehensive at first but I would recommend this to anyone.

Best Experience Ever

If divorce could be a good experience, this was. The mediator, Shirley Pappin, was so knowledable and helpful. She really cared about us and especially our children. She helped us through the hard times and all the fear that comes with divorce. I would recommed this company to everyone.
