Sumo Japanese Steakhouse

Husband and I came here for our first visit, on our anniversary. We came in about 9:45, so we got a table to ourselves. Our chef, Matt, was amazing as was the waitstaff. We got steak and shrimp (the Alamo) and it was definitely worth the price. The sushi bar looked very enticing, but we were much too full to try it. On the way out we had a balloon unicorn made for our daughter...I'm not sure how often the balloon guy is there, but he works for tips, and is awesome!

Went for sushi and happy hour, not for hibachi, sat in the bar area. Was seated immediately, server was very nice and attentive without hovering. The pacific roll and islander rolls were amazing, the steak tataki rare and flavorful, spring rolls crispy and delicious. Had the sake flight and scorpion bowl, were great! Highly recommend this place for happy hour and sushi!

Moving here from Houston we have been looking for a Japanese steakhouse similar to Benihana's, after our visit, I will say hands-down this was a fabulous experience. The food and the show was better than what we experienced at Benihana's.

First time here. We were celebrating a birthday. The staff did a very nice job making it a special occasion. All meals were good and our table chief, Black Matt, did a great job. I rated Sumo with a 4 instead of a 5 because no staff we saw or interacted with was of Asian decent let alone Japanese. To be fair, it was Memorial Day evening with a skeleton crew and also Matt said he was part Korean:). He was wonderfully humorous all evening so it might have been part of his act to say such a thing.

I had my birthday there yesterday, it was awesome. They were able to accommodate 20 of my closest friends. I've been to Benihana and Osaka, and this by far my favorite hibachi restaurant. The food, service, show, and experience were amazing.
My friends had a great time and they also are having their birthdays here. The Manager David is really down to earth and you can tell that the staff cares.

Haven't tried dinner yet but the Happy hour is excellent with excellent fresh made sushi and drink specials. Very friendly service at the bar. We will return!

I had so much fun. Our cook George and waiter Jose were awesome and so funny. Definitely going back.

This place is great. The hibachi grill is so entertaining for people of all ages. The food is fresh and full of flavor. I would suggest making a reservation in advance especially if you have a large group. Prices are a bit steep but worth it in food quality and entertainment.

Had an amazing time at this restaurant. Food was Fabulous. Little one tried foods she said she did not like and loved them. Our chef was so much fun. All the beautiful prom dresses flowing about was a treat.

We enjoyed our birthday celebration at Sumo. Our
waiter Robert was great, he was attentive and prompt and brought many laughs to party of 16 in addition to managing our party effortlessly! Chefs & food were fantastic, looking forward to visiting Sumo again!

Outstanding service by Crystal and delicious food....wow..wow...! Tommy master the cooking on the Hibachi and I enjoyed every minute...! I order the filet mignon & Lobster..never tasted such a delicious mignon and lobster in my life...! I am definetely coming back here...! Well done Sumo Japanese Steakhouse...

So my husband and I went for our first time and I must say the service was excellent and the chef was awesome. Our food tasted very good I ordered the hibachi chicken with fried rice and my husband had hibachi steak it came with a very tasty soup and a salad, it's a little pricey for hibachi but I didn't mind since we had a great experience over all. Also the manager came to ask how was everything and for me that's a bonus. Will come back

Came here with the family, and had a great time! We started with a caterpillar roll which frankly, was the best one I've ever tasted (and I've lived all over). They add something crunchy (maybe tempura?) to the middle, and that just made it over the top delicious! Then Chef TOMMY arrived, and he was hilarious! Scooch your chair back for the initial grill lighting, because it gets hot! 2 of us ordered steak medium rare, and 2 ordered Shamu specials. Everything was cooked perfectly!

Great service! Our server had our drinks to us fast, tommy was great, he put on a wonderful show. The shrimp lobster and filet were cooked perfectly. The manager even came over and said hello! We will definitely be back!

Food was awesome. The tepenyaki chef was personable and sweet .

This is my favorite place to eat in the whole city. I think their Teriyaki sauce recipe really pushes the menu over the top. Not to mention it's a really funny place with a great full bar and they serve jaeger.

I had a groupon for this restaurant, and man oh man, I would've paid full price for this. It's the best hibachi place in town, with good hibachi cooks, great waiters, and a relaxed environment. Cynthia was our Hibachi chef, and it was really a treat to sit with her.

I had the steak and chicken and my buddy got steak and lobster. Included in the meal is delicious veg fried rice (has some sort of garlic butter in there, AMAZING), veggies, soup, salad, and if your chef is generous, some shrimp to start off the night. The bill for two people was $89, (Which we only paid the groupon price for, score!)

One thing, they automatically include a gratuity charge that is higher than 15%,... it'd be nice if they let us decide how much to tip them (frankly, I would've tipped about the same amount as they required us to), but all in all, it was a great evening. Thanks, Sumo!

Make sure you are hungry when you go there. There is a lot of food to eat.


Be sure to make a reservation on the weekends.
