Spinal Adjustments
A chiropractor can offer a noninvasive approach to recovery. The chiropractic philosophy focuses on healing directly at the injury source. Rather than prescribing medication or invasive treatments like surgery, the chiropractor will help patients heal through targeted spinal adjustments, specific rehabilitative exercises, and different lifestyle modifications. The chiropractor's goal is to help the patient heal completely, so that they are at the same state of physical wellness as they were before the injury. Many sports injury patients who receive chiropractic treatment even feel that they are better than ever as they return to the sport or activity that they love.
Stretching
Subluxation
There are a number of different possible sources for the pain including bursitis, arthritis and tendinitis, but misalignments (subluxations) of the vertebrae in the neck and lower back are responsible for the vast majority of chronic arm and leg pain. If the spaces where the nerves leave the spine become narrowed because the vertebrae or discs are out of position, the nerve can become irritated, and often produces pain down its entire path. Many patients are surprised when they see that the nerves travel from the spine all the way to the ends of their fingertips and toes.
Manipulation Therapy
Research has shown that spinal adjustments to the neck may be an effective treatment option for headaches. In 2014, the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) found that interventions commonly used in chiropractic care resulted in greater outcomes for the treatment of acute and chronic neck pain and increased benefit was shown in several cases where neck pain had been treated using a multimodal approach. JMPT in 2011 showed another study that found chiropractic care, including spinal manipulation, to improve migraine and cervicogenic headaches.

Dr. Nicholson earned her Biology and French undergraduate degrees at St. Mary’s College-Notre Dame. At Life University School of Chiropractic, she earned her doctor of chiropractic degree, graduating magna cum laude. Dr. Nicholson has also earned Pediatric and Webster certifications in the areas of prenatal care, postnatal care, and pediatric care. Dr. Nicholson is an active member of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors, The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, and the Rochester Regional Chamber.
