On-site with MCR, Anthony and Cindy spearhead operations related to the professional practice and support the direction of MCRâ€™s Board of Directors and Shareholders.

Men who have undergone PAE have reported high satisfaction, no urinary incontinence, or sexual side effects. Minor side effects, most of which resolve on their own, include frequent and/or difficult urination, pelvic pain, blood in the urine, blood in the stool, and diarrhea.

Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain that occurs because of pelvic congestion syndrome is often felt below the belly button in the pelvis. A number of conditions can cause chronic pelvic pain, including enlarged varicose veins in the ovaries and pelvis.

MCR is searching for talented body imagers to help service advanced urology, GI, thoracic, and vascular service lines, as well as a very busy multi-disciplinary oncology program. The position will encompass the full range of diagnostic imaging in both the hospital and outpatient settings and include the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary conferences and tumor boards as the imaging specialist. Angiography and higher-level procedural skills are not required. No mammography is required unless capable and interested. Limited evening/night shifts as these are generally covered by a combination of residents and an internal pool of overnight radiologists. Multiple Sclerosis
Lumbar puncture is a diagnostic procedure used to sample the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Neuroradiologists use x-ray guidance to safely insert a small-caliber spinal needle through the skin at the lower back into the CSF. Using x-ray guidance typically results in a quicker procedure with less patient discomfort compared to non-image-guided lumbar puncture. This procedure is used to diagnose infections, tumors, and conditions such as multiple sclerosis affecting the brain and spinal cord.

Psychiatry
Our Nuclear Radiology subspecialists offer extensive modern services in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging including general nuclear medicine, SPECT/CT, cardiac nuclear imaging, and PET/CT. Our expert teaching faculty in Nuclear Medicine at EVMS are training the next generations of radiologists and other physicians. We also enjoy participating in cutting-edge clinical trials which can offer our patients the newest molecular imaging radiopharmaceuticals that are not yet available outside the clinical trials. Recent examples include the ACR IDEAS study, which offered amyloid brain PET imaging assessing possible Alzheimer’s disease; and a phase 3 clinical trial evaluating prostate cancer using 18F-PSMA PET/CT. We collaborate with many other specialists including interventional radiology, radiation oncology, multiple surgical fields, neurology/psychiatry, endocrinology, and oncology.

PET/CT and nuclear medicine scans are types of molecular imaging with an array of unique tests to help manage various medical conditions. You may need to prepare ahead of time for some of these examinations.
Mammography
Mammography, also known as a mammogram, is the examination of the breast using x-rays. Mammography is considered the most effective tool for early breast tumor detection. Most medical experts agree that successful treatment of breast cancer often is linked to early diagnosis. Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancers because it can show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them.
Computed Tomography
CT (computed tomography), also called a CAT scan, uses x-ray and computer equipment to produce cross-sectional images from of body issues and organs. CT imaging is useful because it can show several types of tissue, such as lung, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels.
Chemotherapy
IR treatments for cancer are options if you are not a candidate for surgical treatments, if you don’t want surgery, or if your cancer has not responded to cancer drugs. IR treatments are often used in concert with traditional medical and surgical cancer treatments. IR may also be used to diagnose cancer (for example in an image-guided biopsy), to drain collections of fluid in the chest and abdomen, or to place devices such as chest ports so that those who must receive regular infusions of chemotherapy drugs can have them delivered directly into the bloodstream.
Radiation Therapy
Radioembolization, or selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT), is a treatment used to destroy cancer that develops in or spreads to the liver. The doctor inserts a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) into an artery (typically, at the groin or wrist). The catheter is then maneuvered into place, guided by live X-rays. Once at the tumor site, the doctor injects the radioactive beads into the blood vessels that supplys the tumor. The beads give off radiation inside the tumor. This treatment may also be referred to as Y-90 because it commonly uses a radioactive isotope called yttrium 90. At MCR we offer therapy with both Sirsphere and Therasphere.

Many conditions and injuries that once required open surgery can now be treated with minimally invasive procedures which can result in less pain and a faster recovery for you. The interventional radiology physicians of Medical Center Radiologists combine advanced technologies with minimally invasive imaging to diagnose and treat a wide spectrum of conditions. The doctors often use just a small needle or catheter to perform the entire procedure.

MCR MSK Radiologists are local experts who work closely with orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, rheumatologists, spine surgeons, as well as general practitioners to provide the best care possible. For example, MCR MSK Radiologists helped establish a monthly Hampton Roads Orthopedics - Sports Medicine - Radiology Interdisciplinary Conference that brings local providers together to discuss best practices in the realm of Sports Medicine and other orthopedic topics. And as the sole Hampton Roads Radiology group teaching Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Radiology Residents, our subspecialized proficiency is passed on to the next generation of radiologists.

X-ray is the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. X-rays can produce diagnostic images of the human body on film or digitally that allow doctors to view and assess broken bones or other injuries. X-rays are an important tool in guiding orthopedic surgery and in the treatment of sports-related injuries. X-ray may uncover more advanced forms of cancer in bones, although early screening for cancer findings requires other methods.

Yet another subspecialty MCR offered first to the Hampton Roads area was Breast Imaging. In the early 1990’s the use of mammography to identify breast cancer before it was clinically detectable was a rapidly expanding field of medicine and it became apparent that it would benefit from subspecialty training in breast imaging and breast surgery. With the addition of the first breast subspecialty trained surgeon Dr. Claire Carman to the Norfolk area, MCR recruited Nina L. Fabiszewski, MD, FACR, who had completed a Breast Imaging Fellowship at the Magee Women’s Hospital/University of Pittsburgh program. Dr. Fabiszewski joined MCR in 1993 and quickly became the area’s leading authority on the imaging and diagnosis of benign and malignant breast pathology. She led the introduction of breast MRI to the Hampton Roads area and began performing the region's first MRI guided breast biopsies. During her career, Dr. Fabiszewski trained dozens of future radiologists in breast imaging and ultimately created the area's only fellowship in breast imaging which became accredited by the ACGME in 2008. The expertise offered by Dr. Fabiszewski and other MCR breast radiologists has helped detect breast cancer at the earliest possible stages for countless patients in this region. MCR continues to have the largest breast section in Eastern Virginia serving patients of Sentara and Bon Secours health care systems.

Ablation of painful bone lesions using the only FDA approved radiofrequency (RF) technology for palliation of metastatic bone lesions, ablation of painful bone lesions in the spine and pelvis can be life-changing by eliminating or reducing pain. These same techniques can also be used to treat painful benign bone lesions, often found in children (osteoid osteoma). Using CT or live xrays, a metal probe is inserted into the bone and RF energy is applied to heat the bone tumor. This destroys the tumor and results in pain relief.
