I took my vehicle in to get the A/C repaired. I was told it needed a Condenser replaced and was quoted $200 for the repair and I'd need to come back. I told them to go ahead and order the part. After bringing it back, and waiting a bit over an hour, I was told they had good and bad news. Now they said I needed a compressor too, even though mine had worked fine before bringing my vehicle to them. They wanted $760 more! Told them I couldn't afford it now and I'd pay them what I owed them. To my shock instead of the $200 I had been quoted it was $506.00! More than double the quote and still no working A/C! I am a disabled Vietnam Vet and have lung issues. I'm also recovering from a terrible accident after being hit by a drunk driver. They knew this and still ripped me off! My advice is to always get a WRITTEN QUOTE no matter where you go for repairs because saddly people like this are just waiting to take advantage of you!

I met Jeff and his wife when my 98 Suburban just died--at night in the middle for a 4-lane intersection. They were driving by while I was on the phone with AAA, and offered to help. They quickly towed the car to their shop only 2 blocks away, diagnosed the problem as a loose battery cable, fixed it, and I was on my way! I thought I had finally found a good mechanic here in Branson. They even trusted me enough to let me come in the next day to pay the $40 because their shop was closed that evening..

A few weeks later I brought the car in because of a clunk in the front end. The estimate to repair it was $1,108 ($550 labor, $514 parts, $44 tax) Being on Social Security, we asked them if they could to do the most dangerous part one month, and the remainder of the work the following month, so we could afford it. They complied.

When we brought the car back the following month to replace the idler arm and bracket, we were told that it just needed tightening, not replacing. However, Jeff said that the radiator was leaking very badly and we need a new one for $500. Since the radiator was new--not even 6 months old, we decided to have it checked out by someone else to see if it could be welded. At that point, another mechanic said it was not leaking and did not need to be replaced., so I started to loose confidence in Taney County Tire and Towing. During the same inspection, TCT&T replaced the left front brake hose which they said was leaking, and changed the oil for $173. (Expensive?)

We also took a 94 Suburban in to them for checking because it wouldn't stay running. Jeff told us it had water in the oil, and oil in the water and it needed a new engine for $3,300. Very disappointed, I drove the car home where it promptly died in the driveway, and wouldn't start again. I checked the radiator for oil in the water and found it to be empty. I added more water and it immediately poured out. Then I checked the oil, but couldn't find any evidence of water. I talked to my neighbor about trying to find someone who would take it off my hands for more than the $500 Jeff said it was worth, and he offered to take a look at it. After 20 minutes, he found 3 things wrong: it needed a freeze plug ($0.69), a cool temperature sensor ($22.99), and a knock sensor ($48.99). I went to O'Reilly's, bought the parts, and he had installed them, the battery charged, and the alternator checked in 30 minutes. The car started immediately, and runs perfect. He said there was no problem at all with the engine! He only wanted $20 for his labor, but I was so happy, I gave him $50! Now I don't have to sell the car to a junkyard, and I've found a great shade tree mechanic who is honest and doesn't try to cheat people like Taney County Tire. He also checked the "bad" leaking radiator, which he said was fine, confirming the second mechanic's opinion, saving me the $500 Jeff said it would cost for a new radiator to replace the not-quite-6-month-old radiator in my other car.

After my first positive impression of Taney County Tire & Towing, I now feel I would not ever recommend them to anyone. A nice young man like Jeff trying to cheat poor senior citizens, my husband being a Viet Nam vet, 100% disabled, SHAME ON YOU!
