Odorous house ants, known by their common nickname “sugar ants,” are frequent and annoying pests here in the Pacific Northwest. This tiny, black ant species is about ⅛ inch long. While generally harmless, they are a challenge to eradicate. The most common sign of odorous house infestation is foraging worker ants. Odorous ants forage for a variety of foods, including meats, dairy products, vegetables, and sweet substances. You can always identify them by their namesake: a sickly sweet scent they emit, similar to rotten coconuts or blue cheese. We recommend contacting a licensed Pest Control Technician to treat these ants because of their pesky nature and sensitivity to chemicals. Sunrise has a team of experts ready to deal with any odorous house ant infestation, big or small.
Spiders
Anyone who has lived in Washington knows that spiders are frequent visitors to our homes, offices, and gardens. During the late summer and early fall, spiders appear in large numbers. They can often be found in moist, dark areas such as crawl spaces, window wells, or basements. Control of spider populations is best achieved by mitigating the general insect population. Sunrise offers a quarterly pest maintenance service, All Pest Protection, that includes general pest control and web sweeping to help limit spider activity.
Termites
Termites can do a lot of damage, and it’s important to take action right away. Because cases can vary dramatically, we do not offer online or over-the-phone quotes for termite pest control. Instead, please call us to schedule an in-person consultation so we can create a customized plan to address your unique needs.
Bed Bugs
Bed Bugs can do a lot of damage and it’s important to take action right away. Because cases can vary dramatically we do not offer online or over the phone quotes for Bed Bug control. Fleas
Flea troubles begin with dogs or cats who bring them in from outside. In serious cases, rodent activity can also cause infestations. Fleas are brown to black and slightly flat. Pets are the primary attractor for fleas. However, they will also feed on humans. You may not even notice a flea bite until hours later when an itchy red dot develops. Luckily, when we combine home treatments with pet treatments, fleas become easy to get rid of. The responsibility of treating the dog or cat in question rests on the owner, but we will take care of the rest. Sunrise has a tried-and-true treatment method and licensed technicians who are ready to help.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are one of the peskiest creatures that infest homes and restaurants. They hide in dark, moist, warm, especially hard-to-reach areas like cracks and crevices. Roaches have no season, and produce quickly, which makes killing roaches a challenge. Additionally, more than one species of Cockroach can infest a structure at once.
Bees
Our treatment takes 7 to 10 days to be fully effective. You may also see a spike in activity immediately following your service. Your Technician won’t be removing the nest the same day as your treatment. Wasp colonies have workers and foragers that are outside of the nest for long periods of time. Removing the nest before they’ve all had a chance to return and interact with our materials may cause those returning foragers to rebuild in the same spot. This service comes with a 30-day warranty, so any activity remaining after 10 days can be treated again at no cost. Bees and Wasps do not reuse the nest sites. In fact, these nests break down over Winter, oftentimes making removal of a nest unnecessary.
Wasps
Over the course of Spring and Summer, Wasps become increasingly more aggressive, causing disturbance to your property, and can even cause
Flies
Think of it as pest insurance. These services will control all of the pests that are likely to invade your home, including wood destroying insects like Carpenter Ants, and common nuisances such as Bees, Yellow Jackets, Rats, and Mice. It also visibly reduces the presence of pests such as Fruit Flies and Spiders, and the service includes the removal of visible spider webs attached to your home. If you experience pest problems in between regularly scheduled quarterly services, you simply call us and we will dispatch a Technician to treat and solve your problem at no additional charge.
Beetles
Like most homeowners in the Pacific Northwest, you’re familiar with anobiid beetles, also known as powder post beetles. These pests prefer damp timber in poorly ventilated areas. Powderpost beetles infest basements or crawlspaces, often indicating a water leak or a moisture issue.
Hornets
While we are able to treat several different types of Bees, Wasps, or Hornets, we do not treat Honey Bees. If you spot a developing Honey Bee nest in or around your home, please contact your local Bee Keeper or Swarm Collector.
Yellow Jackets
Stinging Insects
. These pests typically pop up during the early weeks of April and May, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Queens spend the majority of the colder months overwintering or hibernating, and rapidly expand their nests once the weather warms up.
Mites
Western Washington is home to a variety of different types of spiders. These eight-legged arachnids feed on insects, mites, and small animals. They’re considered beneficial and help control insects that would otherwise be harmful in larger numbers. The two most common types of spiders in Western Washington are the Hobo Spider and the Domestic House Spider. Despite popular belief, poisonous spiders such as brown recluse and black widow spiders are not native to this part of the state and are rarely found. Many domestic house spider and hobo spider species belong to the genus Tegenaria. Spiders in this genus generally thrive in dark, damp places such as basements, crawl spaces, or window wells. They are capable of surviving for several months without food or water. Young spiders in this genus hatch in May or June and have roughly a 2-year lifespan. However, females can live for up to three years or more.
If you are a homeowner seeking a perfect lawn, getting rid of moles is a challenge. Moles cause damage to lawns and gardens by digging and creating tunnels that disrupt root systems while feeding on earthworms and grubs. We have two types of Moles in Washington. The most common is the Townsend’s Mole, which is active year-round. You can identify activity by the large, volcano-shaped mounds created by the expulsion of excess dirt. These mounds can ruin a picturesque lawn or garden. Sunrise has developed effective treatment methods that won’t affect the health of your yard and will safely reduce Mole activity.
A rat or mouse must gnaw continuously to wear down their teeth and prevent overgrowth. Given enough time, they can and will gnaw through just about anything. Rodents can damage or destroy insulation, wood, wiring, ducting, doors, weather stripping, and more, costing property owners hundreds of dollars in repairs and replacements. Rodents can also spread diseases and transmit to humans. As such, rodent infestations can pose a significant risk to your home and family health.
Mice
The good news is you don’t have to do the dirty work. Our pest control professionals are here to help you get rid of rats and mice in your home and prevent future rodent infestations. Sunrise utilizes Integrated Pest Management techniques to safely and effectively stop rodent infestations and deter potential invaders.
Rats
Power plants have a very low tolerance for rodent activity. As you can imagine, rats chewing on wires at a place like this would be bad news.
Gophers
We have both Pocket Gophers and Moles here in Western Washington. The Townsend’s Mole is a more frequent offender, however, Gopher activity is not unheard of. Sunrise does not have any specific treatments for Gophers; if you think you are dealing with a Gopher infestation, we encourage you to reach out to the U.S.D.A. Wildlife Services.
