Chariots For Hire

They get 1 star for hosting an event that would have made great material for a Seinfeld episode depicting ridiculously bad service, but it's hard for a bride to see the humor.



The driver was entirely uncommunicative and he seemed to have every intention of giving us a tour of the monuments by driving by each one, in the dark, not stopping, and without saying a word. Really, that is not an exaggeration. For that we were required to pay a $140 gratuity - in addition to being overcharged by $175 (details follow at the end). It was an event following our wedding reception, and his surly demeanor was sincerely an embarrassment and made our guests very uncomfortable. We had to ask him after each stop to go to another place, and to actually stop, or he would continue just doing “drive-by’s”.



The only comment we could get out of the company was that tour services would have been “extra”.



My initial email to them said we "would like to have a custom night time tour of the monuments" and " I went to your website and can't find anything specific about particular tours.  As I mentioned, I would like a tour of the monuments for my family, but I'm not sure how that all unfolds.  Do I come up with the itinerary?"  (Clearly, I was looking for a tour - not a "drive by".)  



Their website specifically says "There is typically a 3 hour minimum."  Their email to me said "We received your inquiry for your Trolley request.  We pride ourselves on only hiring professional chauffeurs with years of experience.  26 passenger Trolley - $175/hr.  There is an additional 20% service fee (includes tax, fuel surcharge and partial gratuity).”



We were charged for 4 hours, $840.



They ignored emails after the event:

I did request to “Courtney” that the company make an amendment to the bill accordingly, but the request was ignored.



(Really? yeah. Do you want to hear about how he was 45 minutes early, and then returned 20 minutes late? I could go on, but will spare you all...)

We hired Chariots for Hire for our daughter's Senior Prom along with 17 other Seniors. The Party Bus was equipped w/flat screens, music, neon lighting and had enough seating to accomodate everyone. This is why we chose this bus. The cost, $2,600.00, whether you needed it for 5 or 9 hours. We only needed it for 5 hours. This bus broke down 10 minutes after they left to go to their dinner reservations. This was a 2007 bus.

The bus lost all power and no music, lights, flat screens or a/c. The bus would only go 20mph so they had to ride on the side of I95 until they got to a rest area. Chariots for hire sent a Hummer to pick them up. They crammed in this vehicle and some sat on the floor. They arrived at the restaurant an hour late. The other group of students they were suppose to meet there had already left. After dinner, apparently they were able to fix the bus and took them to Prom. They got to basically use this bus for 45 minutes until they arrived at their Prom, which was at 11pm. The prom was over at midnight.

Although I do understand that things happen but when Chariots for hire only offered a refund of $250.00, I thought this was ridiculoius. I asked Chris(co owner) if he felt that this was fair, he said yes he did....end of the conversation! They were not apologetic at all, that 18 student's Senior Prom was ruined. It was basically "sorry about YOUR bad luck."
