Mohs Surgery
Detroit area dermatologists throughout Michigan refer their skin cancer patients to Dr. Fozo. Not all patients require Mohs surgery, but when appropriate Dr. Fozo works closely with Mohs surgeons, performing reconstruction after skin cancer surgery.Â During the initial consultation he reviews the reconstructive ladder of surgical options with each patient.Â This begins with straightforward procedures like simple wound closures, and progresses to skin grafts, local flaps, and finally staged operations with regional flaps and cartilage grafts.Â The best choice is different for every patient and depends on the type and size of skin cancer, time available for healing and desired final result.
Reconstructive Surgery
For some individuals, medical rhinoplasty is necessary as a result of an injury. This type of reconstructive surgery can help restore function and shape of the nose. Surgery may also be recommended if there is a deviated septum or other structural issue that impedes normal airflow through the nose. Such procedures can help reduce chronic congestion and difficulty sleeping due to sleep apnea.

Eyelid Surgery
When evaluating a patient for eyelid surgery, we always check for adequate tear formation, visual disturbances and for proper brow position. Patients with dry eyes should be very cautious when considering eyelid surgery. Please be sure to tell Dr. Fozo if you suffer from this.

Cosmetic Surgery

Forehead Lift
A Browlift (Forehead Lift) involves re-suspending the brows at the desired location. This is sometimes accompanied by weakening the brow depressor muscles in order to discourage future brow descent. Dr. Fozo uses many different techniques including a modern endoscopic approach that eliminates long cuts; the entire surgery is performed through a few tiny incisions hidden in the hair. Advantages of an Endoscopic Browlift include faster healing, less bruising and no visible scars.

Skin Cancer
My journey with Dr. Fozo began in February 2009 after waking from surgery to remove skin cancer on my nose. My dermatologist immediately told me he had to remove far more than he could repair, and referred me to his trusted colleague Dr. Fozo. Most of the tissue on my nose was cut out in order to ensure all of the cancer was removed; while I was thankful for that, I was nervous about how I would appear as the bandages came off. I was actually more nervous than how I felt about open heart surgery years earlier. This is my face, after all.
Acne Treatment
Chemical Peels
Dr. Fozo hides upper eyelid surgery incisions in the major lid crease. The lower lids are addressed by hiding an incision on the inner lid surface or just below the eyelashes. Occasionally a chemical peel is suggested in conjunction with lower lid surgery in order to tighten the skin.
Skin Care
The results of rhinoplasty are usually permanent; however, due to aging or weight change, slight modifications may be needed over time for some patients. It is important for individuals to maintain good skin care habits and stay out of the sun as much as possible in order to preserve their new look longer. Furthermore, it is recommended that people avoid contact sports or other activities with potential blunt force trauma until they are fully healed from surgery.
