Lakewood Police Department

I was in a blue Subaru traveling with two other cars a black Subaru and a red mazda on I-5, all of us had exited the freeway and were pulled right after the exit ramp. Officer Chatterton came up to my window and stated clearly that “either one of you or all three of you I’m not sure were speeding” and proceeded to go to the next car pulled over in front of us and stated that because of the cars we were driving it looked like we were going fast but he wasn’t sure. His manner was polite and professional however he had no valid reason to pull us over, as he stated that he didn’t really know that anyone had done anything illegal.

He retreated back to his patrol car without another word and returned with a speeding ticket for going 15mpg over despite not having any radar reading. It is my belief that he simply pulled us over because he was stereotyping by the cars we were driving and then found a reason afterwards to try and ticket us. He didn’t even get the correct vehicle information on my ticket, my car is blue and it says black on the ticket. This is appalling to me that the Lakewood police force allows such rampant stereotyping in their procedures. The integrity of this officer was lacking and he was a poor representative for the police force in general, whatever his reasoning may have been it was incorrect and unjust.
