I went to "Hamden High School" in the 70's and I just looked at it now and it sure has grown. It is a wonderful school. When I was there they had a special program for pregnant girls so they did not have to drop out of school and could have their babies and finish school and graduate. It was a great program. My girlfriend went through it and she graduated and that wouldn't have been possible at any other school at that time. There was a very special teacher who taught these classes and I know she would be proud to know that the children she taught became, paralegals, vets, and a host of other good citizens all because she talked them out of quitting school and gave them a class to themselves. I remember picking up two of my friends from her class and she was so attentive with each and every one of them. I don't know if that class is still available not but I pray it is. Lord knows now more than ever it is truly needed and the girls do not need to quit school when they get pregnant.
I have alot of very fond memories of my time at this school. I lived in North Haven and at that time there was no other school to attend. By the looks of the pictures, and the info on the internet I see this is no longer true.
I feel very grateful to have attended such a well-rounded and highly motivated school. Where the teachers actually thought of the students first.
I'd like to thank each and every one of you as I know teaching in a large city isn't what it was in the 70's. Keep up the marvolous work and know that you have done a great job for quite a lot of us.
And even those who had been discouraged from continuing school at all.
God Bless you all. dj aka dh
