Where animals work with people to help our clients and community heal and grow. As the first counseling agency in nation to provide animal assisted therapy as its focus, the Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado provides a unique array of community-based counseling and psychotherapy services for clients of all ages and with a variety of mental health-related concerns. Based on research-supported techniques of animal assisted therapy all of our professional therapists work with a trained animal partner to accomplish therapeutic goals in a cost-effective and timely manner. Our therapy teams have been brought together because each has a different specialty and area of expertise. Each team works with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your goals, whether they are specific or general. Some of the areas we work with are: Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and other Autistic Spectrum disorders, Attachment Issues, Divorce Recovery, Anxiety, Depression, Posttraumatic Stress, Women’s Issues, Couples and Relationship Problems, Family Counseling, Grief and Loss, ADHD, Parent-Child conflicts, Substance Abuse, Abuse and Trauma, Parenting, Adjustment Problems, Child and Adolescent Behavioral concerns and Personal Growth and Development.

General Info
All of us here at AATPC love animals and have a special relationship with our animal partners. Most of the animals were rescued and each have a story of their own (see our Bio section to learn more about our animals!) where they needed to learn to trust and bond. And each were chosen to be a pet partner because they have demonstrated keen instincts of the needs of others, while also being calm, patient and tolerant. While Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a relatively new field, much research has been conducted that demonstrates the power that animals can have in the emotional and physical healing of people. For some clients, all that is needed is to have an animal present in the room for them to feel calmer and more open. This can be true for adults, couples and families, as well as with children and seniors. In addition to their presence, animals can be used to develop specific interventions, aimed at meeting pre-determined therapeutic goals.
