Step 2: The day before your procedure, begin clear liquid diet at 7:00am. NO SOLID FOODS. Please take all routine medications as normal, unless otherwise directed by your primary care provider.
Emergency Care
Stay overnight within a 30-minute drive of the hospital so that you can get to the emergency room quickly, if necessary.
Colonoscopy
The day before your procedure you will have to avoid solid food and only drink clear liquids. Throughout the day you will be asked to continue your prep with oral Dulcolax tablets and a clear preparation drink. With our mixture of Miralax and Gatorade, our patients find our prep better tasting and easier to take. Our in-office Prep Kit is always available to purchase along with easy to follow instructions, so you are prepared for your procedure. Many patients have asked about performing an enema before the procedure instead of taking our prep drink. Unfortunately, enemas don’t allow for complete visibility with the colonoscope and therefore are not recommended. Our staff will make sure you are comfortable with the preparation steps for your colonoscopy and will help plan a schedule that is easy for you to follow.

Supposed to be in such large numbers, causing havoc. It is estimated that on average 60% of people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) may actually have SIBO. If you are experiencing the following symptoms, you may have SIBO.

Labor and Delivery
Most medications are continued prior to the ERCP, although dosages will likely need to be adjusted. Any necessary changes to the dosages of certain medications, especially blood thinners, will be determined by the doctor, who must also be made aware of the presence of any allergies or pre-existing health conditions. In an emergency, ERCP may be performed safely on a woman who is pregnant, although it is usually advisable for the procedure to be put on hold until after childbirth. Patients must also be accompanied by a friend or family member to their appointment since driving is prohibited for approximately 24 hours after the ERCP.

Dr. Meister pursued his undergraduate degree at Creighton University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, before attending the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha. Dr. Meister completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed one year of his subspecialty training in gastroenterology at Washington University-Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and the remainder at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, where he received an academic appointment as an assistant professor of medicine.
Gastroenterology
At Gastroenterology Associates of Colorado Springs (GACS) a SmartPill procedure includes a wireless, ingestible capsule that measures pressure, pH, and temperature from your GI tract and wirelessly transmits that data to a receiver worn on a belt or lanyard. This data is then downloaded to a computer, allowing your physician to analyze the information. The SmartPill provides physicians with data for gastric emptying time, combined small/large bowel transit time and whole gut transit time.

To prepare for your Upper Endoscopy, your upper GI tract must be empty which means no eating, drinking, smoking or chewing gum eight hours before your exam. You can still drink clear liquids up until three hours before your procedure, but three hours prior, we ask that you don’t have anything more to drink. Patients may be sedated before the procedure and are asked to stop taking medication that affects blood clotting or any that interact with sedatives. You should also arrange for a ride home from the clinic.

MRI
Most patients consider the test comfortable. The capsule endoscope is about the size of a large pill. After ingesting the capsule and until it is excreted you should not be near an MRI device or schedule an MRI examination.
