Genbu-Kai Karate

Excellant Self Defense class. I took the one they offer twice a year FREE. Very informative and packed with many different case scenerios that can help in almost every situation. Sensei explained why we react how we do in stressful or life threatening moments. Hope I can do my part when and if I ever need to. Family atmoshpere and CLEAN. Highly recommend taking some classes.

Out of all the places I took my kid to he got the best class and hes great with all the kids. Awesome prices unlike other places that overcharge and dont even apply karate. Dont waste your time with other places.. I got asked for 300 to start and over here it was 100 including uniform. -Carina

Sensei and the family feel of this dojo is exactly what my kids needed. Their self esteem, confidence, and overall well being over the past year has skyrocketed. We couldn't be more thankful for being able to participate in this dojo. Sensei Sorrentino has this amazing natural ability to get the kids to listen to him and learn with discipline. I frequently mention this place to my friends with kids, and to anyone who says a word about karate in general. If I could I would give it 100 stars.

I just participated in the woman's self defense class. The class was very informative! We were also given the opportunity to practice moves so that I am better prepared in case of a confrontation! I highly recommend the class! My daughter is also a student at the dojo. Sensai teaches with a perfect balance of fun and discipline while teaching the kids! The dojo is very clean and family oriented! A must for karate students!

Sensei Anthony and his dojo put on a Karate Spectacular. This was the best 3 hour performance that I have ever watched. Sensei and his students showed over 300 guests their kata's, their self defense and their physical and mental strength. Great compassion towards his students..a job well done, Sensei Anthony. KenR

I'm so thankful to have met Anthony, the owner of Genbu-Kai Karate in Clinton Twp. MI! I would highly recommend this place, it's clean, comfortable, and the knowledge is outstanding. If you're looking for a good Karate place to call home, Genbu-Kai Karate is it!

I just attended a complimentary Self Defense class at Genbu-Kai Karate of Michigan. What a wonderful offering for the community. This doesn't surprise me, though, as my 11 year old grandson has been taking classes there for over a year now and I've seen the dedication and kindness of Sensei Anthony Sorrentino. He is the owner of this dojo, a professional man who treats all of his students and parents like family. He is serious with his instruction, but makes it fun for the students at the same time. I have watched some of his classes and attended tournaments and a karate extravaganza - WOW! Thank you to Sensei Anthony, his beautiful wife and all the staff that helped teach us so much about self defense for almost two hours. If anyone is looking for karate classes, you would never be disappointed here.

Just did the free women's self defense class held once a year and am so glad I went. I am not alone in this, because I heard lots of the women saying how much fun they were having while learning these vital self-defense techniques. We were all saying we wished it was more than one class. I will definitely go again next year and bring friends and family. Thank you so much for holding this class - every woman should attend!!

I am thrilled that I found this dojo! My son was very nervous when he started Sensei Sorrento made him feel right at home. This is the first activity my children can't wait to goto! They are learning so much, being exposed to a new culture, exercising, and much more, all while having fun! I love that we don't have to go on scheduled days. Our schedule is very busy so having the option of different days makes it so we always go at least twice a week. It's a wonderful place to be and if anyone is looking for a Dojo this is the one to be at!!!!

I just had to add my agreement with the other 5-star reviews for this dojo. Genbu-Kai and Sensei Anthony Sorrentino are exceptional. We did our research and visited several area dojos before making the very easy decision to become a part of the Genbu-Kai family. And that's the atmosphere at Sensei Anthony's dojo: like family. The dojo recently moved a few doors down into a bigger and better space, is nicely decorated with a Japanese theme, and is always immaculate. Plenty of elbow room even when classes are changing (which was a problem at other places) and always an open seat with an unobstructed view to watch my son. Not only is Sensei extremely well-trained and knowledgable in his art, but he is also especially gifted in working with children and teaching. That doesn't always go together. He makes it very fun, but demands the respect and appropriate behavior from his students. Our son begs to go, even on nights our schedules don't allow! He would be there every day of the week if we could swing it! That's another thing: A very reasonable and competitive monthly tuition allows for as many days attendance as we wish! And there is no contract, which is nice. Whenever my son's friends, who attend other area karate schools and have "higher ranking belt colors," come to hang out and compare what they've learned, our Genbu-Kai student seems to always know more and have better form in the basics and fundamentals. One of our boy's favorite things is the kobudo (weapons) classes which include the nunchaku, tonfa, bo, and kama. Sensei even offers occasional FREE classes for women's self defense! I just can't say enough about the all-around quality of every aspect of Genbu-Kai. I, of course, highly recommend this dojo for the whole family!

My daughters have been training here for almost 2 years now and they still can't wait to come to class and learn new techniques. Anthony is a wonderful instructor and applies the right amount of discipline, encouragement, and fun into a rewarding program. I highly recommend Anthony and Genbu Kai to all parents!

Are looking for a black belt within the first or second year? Then this is NOT the dojo for you.......Are you looking for a quality dojo to study REAL traditional karate? Then this IS the dojo for you! My daughters and I have studied under Sensei Sorrentino for a year and we are very happy.....cant wait to see where the next year will take us!

My son (9) has been taking karate with Sensei Anthony Sorrentino for the past three years and the results have been AMAZING!! The students and parents in this dojo are more like a 'family' than I ever imagined. The values and self discipline that are taught - in addition to the traditional karate are exactly what we had been looking for. This is a remarkable dojo for anyone who is serious about learning such a fine and traditional art. Sensei Demura was the founder of the US organization. Go ahead and google him - you will be blown away by what you find. With him having chosen Anthony Sorrentino as the Sensei for the Michigan organization says a tremendous amount about Anthony - as a sensei, as a person, as a father and as a friend to all who enter the dojo. You need to come in to watch a class and you will see what I am raving about.

I signed my son up at another karate place and I was so disappointed. I felt like the Sensei there was a robot just hurrying through the motions. I was told by a friend to go to Genbu-Kai and I didn't go at first because I had already paid for a month at the other place. What a mistake. I wish I had went there in the first place. My 5 year old son has been going to Genbu-Kai since November and he loves it. He gets exercise in with a hint of discipline all in a loving atmosphere. Sensei Anthony is so great with the children. He interacts at just the perfect level of fun and discipline for their age. My son loves to go and can't wait to see what moves he will learn next. My son even pretends to have a Jedi Karate dojo at home since he has so much fun with Sensei Anthony! I was so relieved to see someone who can teach and interact with my son. I started to think that all teachers were cold, but Anthony really has a great connection with all of the kids! I highly recommend Genbu-Kai karate with Anthony to anyone looking for a place to go!!

Upon completing my research of numerous martial arts instruction for my two boys (ages 6.5 & 4.5), it became very clear that Genbu-Kai and sensei Anthony was the obvious choice. As an athletic coach myself, I am all to familiar with coaching tactics that achieve results, and sensei Anthony clearly knows how to connect. He is a purist in the art, and understands how to blend discipline, dedication, and fun in leading and developing his pupils to their greatest potential. The kids love his teaching style and look forward to attending every class. For anyone interested in learning the martial arts, I would highly recommend Genbu-Kai and sensei Anthony. The teachings and methodology are second to none, and we couldn't be more pleased.

Martial arts have been a part of my life from a very young age. I trained in several different places growing up and really got into it in college. Once I moved back home from school, I spent some time looking for a place I would be able to train. What I found was a place I could grow. The atmosphere in the dojo is more of a family than that of a school. It is because of this family atmosphere that the lessons, ideals, and wisdom learned within, stick with all involved, students and parents alike, even outside the dojo. That type of positive influence is a quality of character not often found in many who teach the art, but Sensei Anthony Sorrentino embodies this attitude and imparts it upon anyone who walks through the door. The most effective way to reach others is through example. It is in this principle that the true meaning of Karate-Do is realized because at the Genbu-Kai school, everyone serves as an example to everyone else. It is the mastery of self and the formulation of character that allow the practitioner to achieve balance in their life.

Sensai Anthony really knows how to mix the hard work with fun!! My 7yr. old daughter very much enjoys going every week.. She has been a student for about 6 months now. The monthly dojo dues is so reasonable that even me a single mom of 2 can afford it. I've looked around at other karate schools and this was the best one I found in my area... I'm so grateful I was able to find Genbu-kai Karate school, I do and will highly recommend it to any body that wants to send their child to a great karate school.

My two boys have been going to Genbu-Kai since the end of last summer... They love going and on the way to class discuss in the car what the evening might have in store; it is never the same class twice! I love that they are not only getting physically fit, but that they are learning the 'karate way'. Sensei is dedicated to preservation of the art and is successful in bringing the teachings and technique to every class.

I highly recommend, Anthony Sorrentino Michigan Genbu-Kai. He spends the time, and goes to great lengths to help, teach, and care for his students. He is what I call a man of integrity for each and every student, by giving them the quality instruction that one needs. From ages 3 on up he has shown that he cares for the student.
