TOTS’N’TEENS PEDIATRICS will take such steps as are necessary to ensure that qualified persons with disabilities, including those with impairment sensory or speaking skills, receive effective notice concerning benefits or services or written material concerning waivers of rights or consent to treatment. All aids needed to provide this notice are provided without cost to the person being served.
Primary Care
For those parents and caregivers that have a different belief in vaccines and that choose not to vaccinate their children we feel that is the best for those families to find another primary care doctor that will meet their specific needs and wants. If you have decided not to vaccinate your children, you will need to sign a waiver stating that you have a refused the vaccines and will have 30 days to find a new primary care provider. Within the 30-day transition period to a new physician, we will continue to serve your child's needs; however, after the 30 days have passed, we will no longer be required to see your children.

Emergency Care
Often it is better to treat symptoms overnight and be seen in your medical home than to rush to an urgent care facility. If you need help after hours, you can call our office number (205-856-4440 ) and reach the answering service or call the answering service directly at 205-930-4322. You will then be contacted by a trained RN from the Children's Hospital of Alabama Pediatric Health Information Line (PHIL ). The PHIL nurses will discuss your child's symptoms with you and help you decide how best to handle the situation until our office is open. If a life threating emergency is occurring, please call 911.

Immunizations
Children should be vaccinated every flu season for the best protection against the flu. Since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against influenza virus infection, it is best that children get vaccinated so they are protected before influenza begins spreading.

We firmly believe, based on all available literature, evidence and current studies, that vaccines do not cause autism or other developmental disabilities.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Tots 'n' Teens Pediatrics requires medication follow up visits for patient who are on chronic medications. These medication follow -up visits are used to manage medications for a variety of different problems including but not limited to ADHD, allergy and asthma, bed wetting, migraine headaches, diabetes and pre-diabetes. Some medications require follow up every 3 months and others every 6 months. Please note that in order for refill requests to be processed on medications requiring medication follow -up visits, the patient will need to have been seen in the past 6 months for either a medication check or a well child appointment.
