mema's Deli & Sweet Shoppe

It had been a while since I had been in to Mema's, but when I heard the original owners were back working there part time I just had to stop in. I was not disappointed! Mema's is back on top of their game and everything was awesome!

I would rate this place fair at best. First off, the staff was very friendly, and helpful. The deli was reasonably clean and tidy. Unfortunately, there are only 2 tables for eating your meal there. I had the Chicken Riggies (special for the day) and my friend had a turkey sub. He liked the sub, but did not care much for the roll. The whole roll was soft and fresh, but he prefers the Italian style where the outside has a light crust. The riggies were supposed to be in a tomato sauce with cream mixed in. I could not even tell that the sauce was a tomato sauce. It was more like a mildly spicy watery gravy. It wasn't horrible, but not as described. Will we go back there? Probably not.

My wife placed an order, actually a few orders the other day for herself and her nursing student friends. She was originally going to order just for herself, but when the others heard her ordering, they wanted in as well. This irritated the lady who answered the phone at Mema's. (Go forbid you get multiple orders to give you more business) The order was placed and asked to be delivered at a certain time which Mema's agreed too. The time came for the order to arrive and it did not. My wife called and asked where it was, to her dismay, she was informed the order had not left the restaurant yet. Mind you my wife and her nursing school companions only have a half an hour for lunch. She advises Mema's not to deliver at this point to save time they would come pick up the food. When they arrived to get the food, they hadn't even started some of the orders yet. Needless to say this was a little frustrating, so she asked for a refund which didn't go over too well with the staff there. In doing so, the manager gave her a hard time, never apologized for their LACK of CUSTOMER SERVICE and to make matters worse, the cook came out and called my wife ghetto. She asked the cook if he was a racist and he said he was. They told my wife not to come back there ever again. REALLY? Do you think she would want too? Its a shame, that not only does their customer service leave something to be desired, they do not apologize for their short comings, they are a racist business on top of that. My wife is black, so what? Because she had a bad experience with your company, you respond with a racial slur? I am a white male, if I was upset, would they have called me a redneck, or are they only racist against black people? In conclusion, TERRIBLE PLACE to spend your hard earned dollars.
