I recently brought my 7 year-old Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop into Oncall 25/8 on Duke Street after experiencing critical power issues. For years I had had a feeling my battery and power cords were failing and recently discovered I couldn���t even maintain power even when plugged directly into an electrical outlet. Initially, I spoke with an Oncall operator on their 1-800 number and was pleasantly surprised when they offered a code for a free diagnostic check. I called the Duke Street location immediately and was able to bring my laptop in the next day (a Thursday, around 1pm). After explaining my concerns to the front counter technician, I was told to expect a 24-48 hour turnaround on the diagnostic. Each day thereafter, I left 1-2 messages requesting a follow-up on the status of my work order, most of which were either returned when the store closed at 6pm, or not at all. Unfortunately, the diagnostic took much longer than expected (of which was never explained why) and was not completed until late Monday. The initial diagnosis was favorable, my motherboard was in good condition, and required only the replacement of my power jack and a good internal cleaning. Having expressed initial concern to the technician regarding the cost of repair verses the cost of a new computer, I was pleasantly surprised when they offered to repair my laptop for $100. In the end, I was without my computer for exactly 1 week, which is of course much longer than I had anticipated and with much less communication between myself and the technician than originally believed; however, overall, I was happy with the quality of work the Duke Street location provided, and have not yet to date, experienced power failure issues.
