Established in 1886, the Wilmette Police Department is a city department that offers a variety of law enforcement services. It responds to more than 20,000 calls each year and has over 60 sworn officers and civilian employees, including a police chief, deputy chiefs, commanders, sergeants and police officers. The department offers a wide range of services, including patrol, criminal and juvenile investigations, traffic coordination, crime prevention, drug abuse resistance education, and research and development. Its investigation division conducts follow-up investigations of various cases, including identification, apprehension and assistance in the prosecution of criminal offenders, locating witnesses, physical evidence collection, property recovery and preparation of cases for court. The department also offers a variety of in-service training programs to its offices. Located in Village of Wilmette, Ill., the police department is approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
