Disclaimer: This review comes from an unhappy tenant at this building. While I think this is a pretty awful place to live please take my review with a grain of salt. That said, I personally would advise against renting or buying at this location for the reasons below.

I had the unfortunate luck of renting an apartment in this building before I moved to DC. Not only did my landlord not tell me that I would be renting a place near the building garbage compactor and chute, but he also left out that it was also close to an apartment with a super loud bird that chirps constantly whenever its owners are not home.

Normally I would just say I got unlucky and not bother writing a review, but there are so many other things about this place that just makes it a complete dump. The board at this building could care less about the fact that people drop what I can only believe are bowling balls down the garbage chute at all hours of the day and night. I am constantly woken by the sound of very heavy items crashing down into the container. After the crash the compactor starts to whirl. Sometimes these crashes break the compactor so it just continues to go on and on and on until I am forced to go over to the trash room and turn it off manually. Does the compactor really have to be on 24 hours a day? Me thinks not. Does anyone here care to find a better solution to the current system? Nope. Not when it only affects one unlucky renter.

I have brought this up to the board, but since I am a renter they don't seem to care. Yes a sign with loads of other information went up in the trash rooms on each floor, but I doubt that it is read. When I continued to bring this up to the board all I got was silence.

This brings me to another sore point with this building. The people that live here are, for the most part, complete DBs. There are nice people at the 1225 lofts, and I have talked with many of them, but the general attitude is basically one of "screw you" as long as I am happy. Case in point: the bird issue. I am a fan of pets just as much as the next person, but when your bird screeches when you are not home, forcing a nice neighbor to have a nice afternoon ruined, and you do nothing after said nice neighbor politely brings this to your attention well...then you are a genuine DB.

Between the bird and the garbage chute / compactor I cannot have a pleasant evening or afternoon at home unless I have my headphones on or have the TV cranked up full blast.

In another example of the caliber of people that live in this place happened right after I moved in. It was the hottest week of the summer and apparently there was some leak with my AC. I was not clear as to what was going on and not clear if there was a leak at all. There was a damp spot on the carpet in the hallway that was all. While the problem was being investigated I turned the thermostat way down to conserve AC time, but with temperatures of over 100 degrees it got unbearable in this cement apartment. One afternoon I came home to this in my inbox: "Shut down your A/C you're damaging our hall". This, only a few days after I arrived and still not fully aware what the problem was.

The location of this place is just great. No complaints there. the kitchens in the units are pretty decent as well. (these are the only two reasons that it got two stars). But the rest of the apartment is put together with such flimsy construction materials that it has the feel of a cheap Vegas hotel. The lights in the living room that change colors are the icing on the cake of cheezyness.

There could be awesome places in this building on a quiet floor with and better construction, but after my experience here there is no deal good enough to make me want to ever buy or rent here again. Once my year is up am and going and never looking back.
