Virginia Correctional Enterprises is a state program that offers supervision and evaluation services. Located in Richmond, Va., the unit is a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections, which promotes public safety and assists felons in returning to normal life. It provides crisis intervention, advocacy and family support services to crime victims. The department has a staff of over 13,000 employees. The Virginia Department of Corrections also supervises adult offenders who are on probation and parole. In addition, the department offers chemical dependency, substance abuse treatment and counseling services. It operates several correctional and treatment centers. The Virginia Department of Corrections additionally offers employment assistance services to help inmates become productive members of society.
