DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! YOU WILL BE SORRY!! Approx. 1 Year ago (happened in 2010) we went to NWSK and were told they were a good place to buy puppies and that they weren't puppy mill puppies. What a LIE!!! We bought my Aunt, who just lost her dog to a car wreck, a very tiny chocolate lab puppy. She was already underweight, and had major diarrhea, so we took her to the vet the next day. The vet said she HAS ghiradia, major hip dysplasia, bacterial intestine disease, and was emaciated. The vet said the puppy was also MALNOURISHED and DIDN'T know how to eat, this being equivalent to being anorexic. The puppy, Lilly, had to be watched 24/7 for the 2 months. She was on a special RX diet, antibiotics, vitamins, ghiardia meds, ect. She was watched by 3 households, while someone worked. The vet said we SAVED Lilly's life; She would have DIED if she was left at that NASTY Kennel. The so called young male "Vet Tech" at NWST told me she just needed fluids and to bring her back in to their "Vet" so we could pay them too, their VET would not have given Lilly the proper care, since she only needed fluids. LIE . If Lilly would have been brought back she'd be dead!! All conditions of Lilly were nonrefundable, and he continued to lie and said she wasn't a puppy mill dog. Lilly's papers said she was from Kansas and AKC, well guess what the owner is in trouble w/ KS because of his MURDERING pupppies/dogs at his KS facility!! Lilly never received AKC papers, wow another LIE!! Lilly is now on meds for the rest of her life and may be facing hip surgery in a few years. My Aunt CAN'T afford this, she is on disability and can barely walk upright. The owner NEVER returned our phone calls!! Also, when we went to this kennel we were APPALLED be the conditions ALL the puppies were in, feces in kennels and matted into hair, blood in the feces, the smell was DISGUSTING!! Hardly any water for the puppies to drink. If you seriously need proof watch 7 news. It is Amazing what watching 7 news can tell you. Watch it for yourselves it's on their website for 9-22-11!!!

If you want to buy a product of a puppy mill- you found a great place! The puppies are bred as merchandise and the owner Jeff Fortin (please Google him) recently killed 1,200 puppies! Please do the research for yourself, you will be disgusted that this horrible place is in business!

Any positive reviews are from uneducated and naive customers who have no knowledge of the puppy mill industry!

Beware, their puppies ONLY come from puppy mills. DO NOT BUY- you are only contributing to the problem. There are way too many dogs in need of adopting at your local shelter.

The owner of North Washington Street Kennel, Jeff Fortin, just had 1200 dogs killed at a kennel that he owns in Kansas because of a fully preventable distemper outbreak. Google it - it's all over the news.

My family recently purchased three puppies from NWSK and all of them were very very ill. One was near death last week and is recovering and another is on her death bed today. This puppy barely had hair growing over her skin when we saw her and when asked how old, of course Jeff the owner replies with a quick "8 Weeks" because this is the law. Two different vets said the dog was obviously not as old he said. They had severe cases of parasites, our vet said they had never even seen one of these parasites before. Another puppy had THOUSANDS of parasites in only one stool sample. One of the pups has such a severe respitory infection that the vet had to send the xrays out to seek more opinions. They were shocked at what they saw and still cannot identify the virus. They know Jeff Fortin and the NWSK very well and are taking their own action against him. He is a well known puppy miller all over the country and already has been charged with 34 counts of animal abuse at his other location. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM PET STORES ESPECIALLY THIS ONE! Every time you purchase a dog from a pet store another dog looses his life. If you have had bad experiences with this place please call the Animal Law Center 303-322-4355 and help with the law suit against him. THANK YOU!

The conditions for the puppies in this store are deplorable. As a trainer, I have heard about the atrocities from over 150 miles away on the western slope!! A puppy is the only family member you can choose, so why ask for medical issues and mounting bills when other options are available. I have worked with some of these puppies and their people, and not only do many have chronic health concerns, but their ability to learn is substantially reduced due to a lack of proper socializing and nurturing during the formative weeks of development. Do Not Support this practice with your time or money. Support the shelters, responsible breeders and fanciers buy buying or adopting a dog that was not bred to line the pockets of an unethical middle man.

I went to get a pup yesterday. One had green boogers, and I asked if he was sick, they said, he's being treated for a respiratory infection. Same with the pom I wanted, same with most of the dogs I wanted. I asked them if it was kennel cough, and they said yes!!! Lots and lots of sick sneezing puppies. They began medicating them after I had inquired.

The store was so clean and the puppies so healthy, i had my dog for almost a year now and not problems what so ever. the people were so nice and they told me if there were any problems to let them know. such a great place to get a dog.

I never in all my years buying from them had a sick pup or seen sick puppies, i live in Colorado for 23 years. A very friendly environment, and the owner gets all the pups from reliable breeders, not puppy mills like you would see in mall shops. very good place to get your dogs.

Interesting that the only exceptional review is written by the co owner of this store. Or at least the same first name & last initial.

If people want to know the truth, call the dept of agriculture request a copy of their records, it's 3 cd's long, cost is $2.50 per cd. It shows all the violations. They have been fined for opening not just 1 but 2 stores with no license, not having proper medical records on the dogs, having dogs die within days of purchase, not having the proper ventalation, the list goes on. Although they show a couple of different breeders when you research this you will find the breeder names are registered to the co owner Jeff Fortin who lives in Kansas. Think of the kind of lives these moms & dads of these puppies are living.

Make no mistake these dogs are from a puppy mill.

ADOPT DON"T SHOP!!!

I have bought two dogs there. The first one was in great condition when I bought her, and she's grown up to be an amazing dog. We love her to death and I never ever regret spending the money on her.

However, we recently bought a second there, and we got stuck with a lot of problems. The day after we brought him home he had green mucous coming out of his nose. Turns out NWSK sent him home with Pneumonia as a result of kennel cough. Come to find out they ALSO sold him to us with untreated Tapeworm and Coccidia. We are treating him for all three. I spent a heck of a lot of money to get this dog and we've already spent 200+ dollars extra on him to fix the problems that the kennel left us with. They also say they can't do anything about it, which I understand if the dog got sick while he was with us, but they sold him to us with all these unresolved heath issues. They WILL NOT treat your puppy after you sign the contract.

I would have suggested them because of how great my first dog has turned out, but I will never buy from them again. I've been through too much money and stress over possibly losing my puppy to dangerous health issues.

They have a great selection and are really nice, but they need to take more care of more of the issues before handing them off to a new owner. I wouldn't risk spending the 500+ dollars on a dog here.
