- ABOUT THE SALON Fleischman, A Men's Salon is a one-room, intimate environment. Located on the ground floor of a residential building in midtown Manhattan, the space is earthy and masculine, with leather club chairs, dark-wood floors, a tin ceiling and what we think is just the right amount of taxidermy. Embodying her vision, Erica created a personal and comfortable space, where men are catered to individually. Clients are invited to help themselves to a beer from the tap or a Macallan before heading to the chair for their cut. The idea was and continues to be that a man can feel at home here, a place he'd want to return to because the process is easy, the worry taken away, trust is gained. Clients who have been with the salon for 5 years or more are given a brass plaque on the bar at the salon...the bar has more than 100 plaques on it (we think that speaks for itself). OUR APPROACH A consultation before shampoo (so we can see the hair in its natural flow) is an integral part of our practice. Our focus is on the appropriate haircut for each man individually, always taking into careful consideration the texture of hair, the way it falls, the face structure, the desired result, making sure every cut is specialized and the final product is a natural style that is easy to maintain, replicate daily and grows in beautifully. With us, you're not rolling the dice in a random barber's chair. We pride ourselves on the ability to provide peace of mind knowing you are receiving the best mens haircut in NYC, LITERALLY.

This isn't a good place. i frequented it for a while but finally came to my senses and quit. It's not worth the money. In my experience, the salon declined over the past year. The haircut is only so-so -- there are better options in this city at the same price (or if you're lucky, for less). Plus they don't treat you well (this too got worse over time), sometimes with the courtesy and enthusiasm of a DMV worker.
And then there's the late policy. I missed an appointment awhile back without canceling in time and was charged full price. I recognized the business reasons and was okay with being charged, though the 80 bucks stung. But here's what finally caused me to quit and get a better haircut elsewhere for the same price. On my way to the salon, I told them over the phone that I would be 10-15 minutes late. They responded that the lateness would cut into the 30 minutes allotted to my haircut, and I said OK. But when I arrived, exactly 12 minutes late, they told me -- confrontationally -- that my stylist had left! "She had places to be." And they charged me for the full $80 despite our understanding over the phone just minutes earlier while I rushed to the salon. Why cut somebody's hair when you can fetch the same price by robbing them?
